The exceptional talents of para athletes from Oman were on full display at the fourth Hangzhou 2022 Para Asian Games, where they notched remarkable achievements in both the club throw and shot put events. This stellar performance resulted in the acquisition of two gold and two silver medals.

The recently concluded Hangzhou Asian Para Games bore witness to Oman's outstanding performance, with the nation's athletes securing a total of four medals. Mohammed Al Mashaykhi and Mohammed Al Qasmi, a dynamic duo, contributed significantly to this success by earning two gold and two silver medals, respectively.

Mohammed Al Mashaykhi, the Asian record holder in the men's shot put (F32) event, clinched the gold medal with an astounding throw of 8.33 meters, marking a personal best for the season.

On the other hand, Mohammed Al Qasmi's exceptional performance secured him the silver medal with a throw covering a distance of 7.34 meters. This outstanding achievement resulted in a remarkable 1-2 finish for Oman.

Previously, on October 23, Al Mashaykhi and Al Qasmi had already achieved an impressive one-two victory in the men's club throw (F32) event. Al Mashaykhi's powerful throw covered a distance of 27.78 meters, securing his position at the top of the podium, while Al Qasmi's performance earned him the silver medal with a throw of 27.33 meters.

It's worth noting that both of these para athletes had previously graced the podium at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, with Al Mashaykhi earning a gold and a silver medal, and Al Qasmi securing a well-deserved silver.

Mohammed Al Mashaykhi boasts the distinction of being the sole Omani athlete to win a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in the shot put (F32) event held in Tokyo. Furthermore, he added to his impressive list of achievements by clinching a silver medal at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in the same category.

As the Hangzhou Asian Para Games concluded, Oman's overall standing in the medal tally was 21st. China led the medal count with an impressive total of 521 medals, including 214 gold, 167 silver, and 140 bronze.

This latest achievement builds upon Oman's outstanding performance at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou earlier in the month. During that event, the nation achieved its best-ever showing by securing two medals, including a historic silver and a bronze. Notably, the sailing duo of Musab Al Hadi and Waleed Al Kindi made history by finishing second in the fiercely competitive men's skiff 49er event, while Husain Al Farsi brought home Oman's first medal in the 800m track discipline.
