In an effort to improve traffic flow and accessibility within Al Khuwair, a bustling commercial hub, the Muscat Municipality is embarking on a significant project. This initiative involves the conversion of the existing service road adjacent to Sultan Qaboos Street into a one-way road.

The comprehensive project encompasses the conversion of approximately 6 kilometers of service roads into one-way lanes, each accommodating two lanes moving in the same direction. The transformation begins at the intersection of Al Khuwair Street, Road No. (3534), and extends to the Ministries Street intersection beneath the bridge.

To further enhance traffic efficiency, two additional entry points to Sultan Qaboos Main Street will be established along the service route, one midway and the other at its endpoint, reducing commute times.

As part of the project, certain side roads will also be converted into one-way lanes, ensuring a smoother traffic flow throughout the area. The infrastructure enhancement plan includes the construction of new pedestrian sidewalks, improved parking facilities, and upgraded utility services.

The project has a multifaceted set of goals. Firstly, by directing traffic in one direction, it aims to alleviate congestion, eliminate the need for turns, and reduce the likelihood of traffic hazards, ultimately contributing to noise reduction and improved overall safety.

Furthermore, the project seeks to enhance traffic efficiency, ease of movement, and accessibility within the internal neighborhoods and the surrounding regions, making life more convenient for residents and commuters alike.

The project also aims to support public facilities and enhance commercial activity in the Al Khuwair region.

Beyond its practical objectives, the project aspires to contribute to the development and enhancement of the area, incorporating aesthetic elements that align with the city's vision for a more appealing and livable urban environment.
