The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a weather alert indicating the potential for fog formation during late night and early morning hours on Saturday in several governorates of Oman, including South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Dhofar, and Al Dhahirah. This fog may occasionally impact horizontal visibility levels.
Furthermore, the latest weather updates and analysis from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center suggest that an upper air trough is likely to affect Oman from November 5th to November 9th, 2023. During this period, various weather conditions are anticipated, including cloud advection, the possibility of thunderstorms of varying intensity, active downdraft winds, and the chance of hail. These weather phenomena are expected in several governorates, including Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Muscat, Al Dakhyliah, North Al Sharqiyah, and South Al Sharqiyah. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the Al Hajar mountains, adjacent areas, and coastal areas along the Oman Sea.
Following the passage of the trough, a relative drop in temperatures is expected due to northwesterly winds.
Specific details of the daily weather conditions include:
- The formation of clouds with the potential for thunderstorms of varying intensity (ranging from 10 to 40 mm of rainfall), which may lead to increased water flow in wadis.
- Active downdraft winds with speeds varying between 28 to 56 km/h.
- An expected rise in wave height to a moderate level of 2 meters along the Musandam west coasts and the coasts of the Oman Sea during the occurrence of thunderstorms.
The Civil Aviation Authority has advised everyone to take precautions during rainfall, check visibility levels, and sea conditions before embarking on sailing trips. It is also recommended to stay updated with the issued weather bulletins and reports.
