Oman Meteorology has issued a warning about the possibility of thunderstorms in several governorates of the Sultanate of Oman on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 12 pm to 10 pm.

According to a statement from Oman Meteorology, there is cumulus cloud activity over parts of the Hajar Mountains extending to the coast of the Sea of Oman on Monday. This cloud activity may lead to occasional thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds and hail, potentially causing flooding in valleys and coastal areas during the afternoon and evening hours.

The expected thunderstorms may affect various governorates of Oman, including Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Musandam, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Sharqiyah, and North Al Sharqiyah, with the possibility of extending to the coastal areas of the Oman Sea.

Oman Meteorology also noted that the rainfall may vary between 10-50 mm, potentially reducing horizontal visibility. Downdraft winds with speeds of 15-45 knots may occur, and there is a risk of valleys overflowing.

In light of these conditions, Oman Meteorology has advised people to stay away from low-lying areas and avoid attempting to swim in valleys. It's crucial to keep a close watch on children and ensure they do not approach or attempt to cross valleys to ensure public safety.
