The Royal Court Diwan issued the following statement today:

"With complete faith in the divine destiny and judgment of Almighty Allah, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has received the sorrowful news of the passing of his brother, the forgiven, by the will of Allah, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jabir Al Sabah, the late Emir of the State of Kuwait.

The deceased was a distinguished Arab leader who dedicated himself to the service of the Arab and Islamic nations, contributing significantly to the prosperity and development of the State of Kuwait.

In mourning, His Majesty the Sultan has issued Royal orders to declare a State of Mourning, with flags to be flown at half-mast throughout the Sultanate of Oman. Public and private sector activities will be suspended for three days, commencing today, Saturday, December 16, 2023, and official duties will resume on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

Expressing solidarity with the Kuwaiti leadership, government, and people in their time of sorrow, the Sultanate of Oman extends heartfelt prayers to Almighty Allah, beseeching for the peaceful rest of the departed in Paradise. May the family of the deceased and the people of Kuwait find strength to endure this profound loss.

To Allah, we belong, and to Him, we shall return."
