
The Oman Film Society and the Organising Committee of the second edition of the Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival announced the details of the upcoming four-day festival scheduled to commence on January 11, 2024, in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
The event will feature participation from various artists and cinema stars from Oman, the GCC States, and the Arab World.
Dr. Humaid bin Said Al Ameri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Film Society, emphasized the society's commitment to promoting film culture across all governorates of the Sultanate through film festivals.
He highlighted the significance of the festival coinciding with Sur being designated as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2024, emphasizing its role as a platform for cultural, artistic, and heritage diversification in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
Anwar bin Khamis Al Ruzaiqi, Director of Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival, outlined the composition of the arbitration committees for short movies and documentaries, as well as the global participation with 255 films from 35 countries.
Out of these, 36 films, including 20 international and 16 Omani productions, have qualified for the festival, competing for 12 prizes across six categories.
