With 11,262 individuals now registered on the Shifa app for post-mortem organ donation, this marks a 37 percent increase from the previous year's total of 7,092 registrations with the Ministry of Health's app. The Ministry of Health, represented by the National Programme for Organ Transplant Department, commemorated Omani Organ Donation Day to enhance awareness about the significance of organ donation.

Under the patronage of HH Sayyid Kamil Fahd Al Said, Secretary-General at the Secretariat-General for the Council of Ministers, the event aimed to underscore organ donation as a humanitarian and generous initiative, offering a viable solution for organic failures like kidney and liver failure. Dr. Ahmed Al Busaidi, Director of the National Organ Transplant Programme Department, presented achievements of the year, emphasizing the notable increase in kidney transplant operations, reaching 17 this year. The corneal transplant program was activated, and there was a substantial rise in registrations on the Shifa app for post-mortem organ donation.

The ceremony also recognized living organ donors and relatives of posthumous organ donors. Additionally, a three-day organ donation training course was initiated in collaboration with the Donation Transplantation Institute, Spain. The Ministry of Health introduced a program allowing individuals to express their desire for organ donation after death by registering in the Shifa application.

Organ donation is highlighted as a profound humanitarian act that can significantly impact the lives of patients suffering from organ failure, providing them with a chance for a renewed and healthier life.
