A three-day mourning period has been declared across the Sultanate following the passing of the Emir of Kuwait.

In a statement released by the Diwan of the Royal Court, it was conveyed that His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, with deep emotion and sadness, received the news of the demise of his brother, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the sisterly State of Kuwait. The late Emir was acknowledged as one of the Arab leaders dedicated to serving the Arab and Islamic nations and contributing to the progress and prosperity of Kuwait.

In response, His Majesty the Sultan issued supreme orders for an official mourning period, the lowering of flags at half-mast, and the suspension of work in both the government and private sectors for three days. This period begins today, Saturday, December 16, 2023, with official work resuming on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

The Sultanate expresses solidarity with the leadership, government, and people of Kuwait in their profound sorrow. Prayers are offered to God Almighty for the departed to be showered with His vast mercy and granted a place in His spacious gardens alongside the righteous. Additionally, sincere wishes for strength and solace are extended to the honorable family of the deceased and the brotherly people of the State of Kuwait.
