In response to the recent earthquake that struck Afghanistan, the Sultanate of Oman has provided over 88 tonnes of relief and medical assistance to the affected region.
The Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) conveyed this support to the Afghan Red Crescent in Afghanistan, in line with the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik. This aid consists of various relief and medical supplies aimed at helping the earthquake-affected areas.
Following a previous devastating earthquake that claimed more than 2,000 lives and caused extensive destruction in Herat province, another powerful earthquake shook western Afghanistan on October 11, 2023. The magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred approximately 28 kilometers outside Herat, triggering a landslide that blocked the main Herat-Torghondi highway. This new seismic event resulted in one fatality and injuries to around 120 individuals, as reported by Janan Sayiq, a spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban government's national disaster authority.
