A research team from Al Sharqiyah University in Oman has successfully developed a nanoemulsion from frankincense oil using a simple and cost-effective procedure. This nanoemulsion demonstrated efficacy in treating breast and lung cancer cells during a laboratory experiment. The project, spanning approximately three years, was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Jankeez and Dr. Raya Ahmed Al Balushi, the current lead researcher and head of the Department of Basic and Applied Sciences.

Dr. Raya, in an interview with Oman News Agency (ONA), highlighted that the frankincense extract revealed a rich composition of various chemical plant substances, exhibiting potent anti-cancer properties in the form of a natural anti-cancer nanoemulsion. She emphasized the solution's capability to impede the growth of both breast cancer and lung cancer cells, validated through toxicity tests. The study indicated that frankincense extracts effectively controlled the growth of drug-sensitive and drug-resistant cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner.
