Royal Oman Police (ROP) has urged people to ignore calls or messages claiming they have won cash prizes to avoid falling prey to electronic fraud.’

ROP said, ‘Ignore all incoming social media calls and messages allegedly from a communication company, a bank or a famous person requesting your personal data or PIN number claiming that you have won a prize in cash or in kind, or offering financial help.’ 

The police said cybercrimes in Oman increased by 25 per cent in 2020 in comparison to 2019, and online fraud in the sultanate is on the rise. ‘To report frauds, people can call the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations on 80077444.
