Two people have been seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Oman. A reckless driver ran over two people with his vehicle in the Wilayat of Suwaiq, North Al Batinah Governorate, on Saturday, local media reported.

Local authorities were prompted to take action after the incident was captured on video and circulated widely on social media.

The North Al Batinah Governorate Police arrested a citizen for drifting with his vehicle in Al Bidaya, Suwaiq, following an investigation.

It was identified that the suspect was the same driver who hit the two victims and fled the scene. The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Royal Oman Police (ROP) confirmed in a statement that the suspect would be referred to the judicial authorities. Reckless drivers who cause injuries or fatalities in hit-and-run accidents in Oman face severe penalties, such as imprisonment and heavy fines.
