Omani police said today they have arrested seven expatriates for suspected electronic bank fraud.

The suspects had texted messages via the mobile phone to their victims posing as bank workers and requested them to contact a given phone number allegedly to activate their bank cards, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said.

During the contact, the victims’ bank data were seized and money withdrawn from their accounts, ROP added on its Twitter account.

The nationalities or ages of the seven suspects were not disclosed.

ROP urged the people against being misled of messages, contacts or links of unknown origin and to avoid disclosing bank personal data.
