No serious side effects have been reported from people who took the COVID-19 vaccine in Oman, Ministry of Health reiterated on Sunday.

The statement from MOH comes after concerns have been raised in various media about the safety and temporary suspension of AstraZeneca vaccine by some countries. MOH said this was a precautionary measure by “these countries to investigate some cases of blood clotting observed in some of those who received the vaccine.”

“It should be noted that WHO and the European Medicines Agency states that there is no direct link between blood clotting and receiving the vaccine in the countries recorded such events, while the investigation of the actual cases continues,” MOH said.

MOH urged the target groups to take the vaccine and avoid paying attention to rumours. “No serious side effects were reported from the vaccines. There is no preference among the vaccines currently used in the Sultanate in terms of effectiveness and safety. The selection of these vaccines was done by a specialized technical team that studies vaccines from all sides,” MOH informed.

The Ministry calls on all targeted groups to get vaccinates and not to pay attention to rumours, and to obtain information from reliable official sources,” MOH added.
