The rise in coronavirus cases in Oman is due to Omircon variant, a top Ministry of Health official said.

Speaking in an interview with Oman TV, Dr. Amal Bint Saif, Director of the Department of Infection Prevention and Control at MOH said 99 per cent of the COVID-19 cases registered in the country during the current period are infected with the Omicron mutator and the cases will continue to increase. “According to the statistics and the results of laboratory tests, about 99 per cent of Covid cases registered in the Sultanate during the current period are infected with the Omicron mutator and the number of registered cases is increasing, and it is expected that the cases will continue to rise during the coming period,” Dr. Amal said.

“It is noticeable that the spread of infection occurred simultaneously in all governorates in the same period, unlike previous waves, where the spread began in certain governorates, and the percentage of positive results among those showing symptoms reached 25 per cent in some governorates,” she pointed out.
