Minister of Health has urged citizens and residents to strictly follow the precautionary measures issued by the authorities so that the government can stay away from taking “harsh decisions.”

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said the government is not keen to impose another lockdown. “We dont want to go back to even partial lockdown but your health, your life and your protection is the priority for His Majesty’s government and the virus is still here. The vaccine is not going to be available to everyone in any country for a long time,” he said.

He also advised people who took the vaccine to continue adhering to the precautionary measures. “The vaccine will protect you from having the disease but it will not stop you from carrying the virus which you could spread to others. So going back to normal is not practical yet. We are still struggling to control the pandemic,” he noted.

When asked if the Supreme Committee will take steps to close the country’s airports, Al Saidi had this to say: “We all have choices and we all know what are the right choices. The technical team discussed the option of closing Oman’s airports. Does anybody honestly want us to go back to that situation again? I don’t think so.”

“We need to protect ourselves and the community so that the Supreme Committee will not be forced to take decisions which are detrimental and harmful to the majority who are doing the right things,” the Minister added.
