The Oman Meteorology department has issued a weather warning for severe thunderstorms in the northern region of the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
Currently, the Hajar Mountains and adjacent areas are experiencing varying levels of rainfall, and the Muscat radar indicates heavy rains in the mountainous areas of the North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dakhiliyah Governorates. It is anticipated that these rains may extend towards the coasts of the Sea of Oman.
Oman Meteorology, in a statement, noted, "Due to the intense thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds and the possibility of hail, significant precipitation is expected in the following governorates: Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhylia, North Al Sharqiya, and South Al Sharqiya. The heaviest rainfall is forecasted over the Hajar Mountains and nearby regions, potentially reaching the coast of the Oman Sea."

The Civil Aviation Authority has advised the public to exercise caution during thunderstorms, avoid crossing Wadis (Flash Floods), steer clear of low-lying areas, and refrain from sailing during the alert period.
The statement further mentioned, "The anticipated heavy rainfall, ranging from 20 to 80 mm, may result in flash floods in Wadis, with the possibility of hail. Strong downdrafts with speeds ranging from 15 to 45 kt (28-83 km/h) are expected, leading to reduced horizontal visibility due to dust storms.
