On Tuesday, three Chinese astronauts who had spent five months in space aboard the Shenzhou-16 spacecraft's return capsule successfully landed back on Earth. Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu, and Gui Haichao touched down at China's Dongfeng landing site at 8:11 am (0011 GMT), with their descent assisted by a large parachute, as shown in footage broadcast on Chinese state media, CCTV. The capsule landed in the desolate Gobi Desert, creating a cloud of orange dust.

CCTV reported, "On-site medical supervision and insurance personnel confirmed that the astronauts are in good health." The Shenzhou-16 crewed flight mission is hailed as a resounding success. These astronauts had embarked on their space journey on May 30 and spent 154 days in orbit.

During their mission, they conducted scientific experiments and performed an almost eight-hour spacewalk. Chinese news reports highlighted their success in growing tomatoes, lettuce, and green onions in space as part of their experiments.

In a recent development, China launched its Shenzhou-17 mission last week, featuring three astronauts, who are reportedly the youngest Chinese crew to date. They are set to replace Jing, Zhu, and Gui. This marks the second crew change since the station's commissioning earlier this year.

China has been revitalizing its space ambitions, positioning itself in competition with the US and Russia. The nation has ambitious plans to send a manned spacecraft to the moon by 2030."
