Closing Oman’s airports in the wake of new Covid-19 strain is under study by the Supreme Committee, according to the country’s Minister of Health.

Speaking at the Supreme Committee press conference, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi said: “Closing the airports to international flights is under discussion by the technical committee concerned that is following up on the developments of the pandemic in the country. We discussed this at the Supreme Committee meeting on Sunday but no decision has been taken.”

Al Saidi also pointed out that to control the airport is easier compared to the land borders. “It’s easy to control the airports due to the strict precautionary measures in place including testing unlike the land borders and that is why we have decided to extend the land border closure. We advice people not to travel at this point of time.” he said.

When asked if the Supreme Committee will consider imposing a lockdown, Al Saidi had this to say: “This is a tough decision to make. Closing the country and imposing a lockdown cannot be taken easily. We hope we will not reach that stage.”
