A consumer in North Al Batinah Governorate received OMR 21,681 as refund after a vehicle he purchased in less than 15 days was found to be defective, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said on Saturday.

CPA said it managed to recover the amount after a friendly settlement was arranged between the consumer and the vehicle agency.

“We received a complaint from a consumer in which he stated that he had purchased a vehicle from one of the car agencies in the governorate, and after issuing the ownership and after receiving the vehicle he found the car vibrating while on drive mode,” CPA explained.

According to CPA, the customer quickly informed the vehicle dealer. “They (dealer) did a through examination during which they found that it is a manufacturing defect from the factory. The agency asked for two days but failed to fulfil the promise. The consumer then lodged a complaint with CPA which took all measures in bringing both the parties together for an amicable settlement. The value of the car was OMR 21,681 and the company agreed to return the amount,” CPA said.

Based on Article (16) of the Consumer Protection Law, a consumer has the right to get the replacement or refund within 15 days from the date of purchase of any commodity if it is found to be defective or does not conform to the standard specifications, with the exception of fast perishable consumer goods.
