In a major raid at a commercial company, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has seized more than 500,000 counterfeit electrical products in Muscat.
In a statement issued, CPA said the raid was conducted in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police and Public Prosecution. The company, according to CPA is specialised in selling electrical and electronic devices. “They were changing the device data with other data associated with well-known global brands,” CPA said.
“Our specialists have seized counterfeit electronic and electrical devices of some leading international brands that are sold at competitive prices,” CPA noted.
The company was selling counterfeit products such as wires, connections and electric bulbs by stamping these tools with international brands’ seals. During the raid, an expatriate worker was arrested in possession of large quantities of electrical appliances and tools whose data had been changed to bear the logo and data of famous international brands using forged seals bearing the names of those brands, and prepared to be sold to consumers directly or through other commercial institutions.
CPA said it will continue to monitor the markets and urged suppliers to abide by the laws.
