Oman is heading towards building a digital government that will contribute to attracting investment, according to Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
His Excellency Said Al Mawaali the focus of the government is on enhancing digital. “The Sultanate is heading towards building a digital government that will contribute to attracting investment,” he said.
The Sultanate, according to Al Mawaali, is ranked 24th globally, the second in the Arab world in the e-services development index, “We thank the ministry’s employees and our colleagues in other government units, and what has been achieved in digital transformation is very good, as Oman is ranked 50th globally in the e-government development index,” he said.
More than 80 per cent of the country’s digital economy is based on the telecommunications sector. “The vision of the ministry is to create an integrated system for transportation, communication, information technology to achieve social welfare,” he noted.
Speaking about cybersecurity the minister Oman has made remarkable progress. When asked on the issue of transparency in announcing cyber attacks, the Minister had this to say: “Sometimes we choose reservations so we know the source of the attacks.”
