
In the Munshiganj district of Bangladesh, a trawler capsized in the Meghna River after colliding with a bulkhead, resulting in the disappearance of six individuals, including five children, as reported by Dhaka Tribune.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm on a Friday near Gajaria ghat. The missing persons were identified by Md. Elias, the officer in charge of Narayanganj's Kolagathia police outpost, as Maroya (aged 8), Sabbir Hossen (aged 40), Rimad Hossen (aged 2), Sumona Akhtar (aged 2), Mawya (aged 6), and Safa (aged 4).
An eyewitness, Amir, who is an autorickshaw driver, recounted that the passengers were on the trawler for sightseeing when it collided with the bulkhead and subsequently sank, according to Dhaka Tribune.
Two trawlers from the Gajaria ghat were immediately dispatched to rescue the individuals. These trawlers successfully saved five people from the water, as reported by Dhaka Tribune.
Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Md Abujafar Ripon noted that despite the presence of a fire service team at the incident site, rescue operations could not be carried out during the night. He further mentioned that the search operation would commence on Saturday morning.
