Indian Schools in Oman were saddened by the demise of their founding father Sheikh Kanaksi Gokaldas Khimji who left for his eternal reward on 18th February 2021. All Indian Schools across the Sultanate remained closed as a mark of respect for the departed soul. “Sheikh  Kanaksi  Gokaldas  Khimji has  been  the  godfather of Indian Schools in Oman.

It is his passionate  service that  has  established this system in Oman and ensured  access  to education for the Indian diaspora here. We, as the Board, schools, faculty, parents and students will remain forever indebted to his vision and contributions.

On behalf of the Board and the entire Indian  Schooling  system, I  offer  our  deepest  condolences to his  family  at  this  time  of irreparable loss,” Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman said in his obituary message.

The contribution made by Late Kanaksi Khimji in the field of education for the children of Indian diaspora in Oman will be remembered for ages.

He was instrumental in starting  the first Gujarati Medium School in 1941 at Muttrah for the children of the members of the business community.

It was the zeal,  enthusiasm  and  confidence of this visionary leader that made  Indian School Muscat, the first Indian School in Oman, a breathing reality. When the school was established in 1970,  there  were  just  135  students  and  7  teachers;  today, there are 21 Indian  Schools with more than  46000  students and 2000  teachers.

The vision belonged to Late Kanaksi Gokaldas Khimji, the doyen of the Indian Community and the first President of the Indian School Muscat Management Committee. Indian Schools in Oman will always be indebted to the selfless services of Late Kanaksi Gokaldas Khimji.
