Under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, the operation of Liwa Plastic Industries Complex (LPIC) has begun.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA) said: "The ceremony of operating the Liwa Plastic Industries Complex at the Sohar Industrial Port of the OQ Group, at a cost of OMR 2.7 billion, began under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan."

His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said praised the success of the completion of the Liwa Plastic Industries Complex, which is of great importance to the national economy and embodies the economic diversification policies pursued by His Majesty the Sultan's government in line with the Oman Vision 2040.

"Liwa Plastic Industries Complex is a tributary of manufacturing industries in the Sultanate of Oman. It enhances the efforts made in the industrial sector and its advancement, and has significant contributions to the local added value that has enhanced investment turnover in the local market," His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said added.

Al Awfi pointed out that the Liwa Plastic Industries Complex is the largest manufacturing project in the Sultanate of Oman. It consists of four packages, where the second, third and fourth packages underwent commercial operations this year. While work is currently underway on the commercial operation of the first package to reach a full production capacity by the first quarter of 2022 , and to produce an estimated 1.4 million tonnes annually of polypropylene and polyethylene.

"The complex will work to strengthen the petrochemical industries sector by producing 300,000 tonnes of polypropylene and 880,000 tonnes of polyethylene annually. It is involved in the manufacture of about 40 per cent of the total various plastic applications that are marketed to 60 countries around the world," Talal bin Hamed Al Awfi, the CEO of OQ Group said.
