
More than 3,000 divorce cases were registered in Oman in 2020, a drop of 8.1 per cent compared to 2019, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
According to NCSI, on an average 10 divorce cases were registered in a day. “The total number of divorce certificates registered in the Sultanate of Oman in 2020 amounted to about 3,426 divorce cases, a decrease of 8.1 percent compared to 2019, and at a rate of 9.4 divorce cases per day, where the number of divorce cases decreased in 2020,” NCSI said in the report.
With 796 cases, Muscat governorate has the highest number of divorce cases, followed by North Al Batinah governorate with 672 cases, while Musandam governorate has the lowest number of divorce cases with 18 cases.
Meanwhile, 18,621 marriages were registered in the country in 2020. “This is 2.1% increase compared to 2019,” the report said.
