The Royal Hospital has inaugurated the first-ever advanced device in Oman for the treatment of cancerous tumours.
In a statement issued by the Oman News Agency (ONA), the device is a heated chemotherapy infusion device, first of its kind in the country.
Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, Head of the General Surgery Department at the Royal Hospital, explained that the device will replace the traditional method of injecting chemical drugs into the abdominal cavity after the operation to remove cancerous tumours.
“It will contribute to the treatment of cancerous tumours, especially colon tumours, ovaries, and appendix, and will be used for the treatment of dozens of cancer patients annually,” Dr Rashid said.
Dr. Amid bin Khamis Al-Araimi, Director of the Department of Surgery at the Royal Hospital, indicated that the hospital performed 13,821 surgeries last year alone.
