Commercial activities violating the night closure ban implemented by the Supreme Committee will be imposed with a fine of OMR 300 and a fine of OMR 1,000 in the event of repetition and cancellation of licence, Muscat Municipality said.

Speaking to Times of Oman, a senior official of the Muscat Municipality, said: “Anyone who is violating the provisions of the decision of Supreme Committee in regard of closure the commercial activities from 8 pm till 5 am will be penalized with a fine of OMR 300 and closing of the activity, and in the event of repetition, a fine of OMR 1,000 will be imposed with the cancellation of the licence of the activity.”

He continued:” The municipality stressed that citizens and residents must report any violations by shopkeepers in the event of non-compliance with the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Committee and monitoring the violations, as there are numbers assigned by the Supreme Committee for reporting as well as through the Muscat Call Center 1111.”

He said also that the inspection teams of Muscat Municipality will monitor all commercial activities and markets that have been determined by the Supreme Committee regarding the closure from 8 pm to 5 am.

He also said: “Muscat Municipality will follow up on the implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Committee in the scope of the municipality, its work and its competencies, in coordination with the competent authorities such as the Royal Oman Police and the Public Prosecution, in the event that any violations of the decisions of the Supreme Committee are detected.”

According to the Supreme Committee, the temporary closure of businesses also includes closing all restaurants and cafes, which are also not allowed to provide home delivery services after they’ve been shut.

The closure does not include fuel stations, health institutions, and private pharmacies, and the committee’s decision does not include the movement ban of individuals and vehicles.
