Around 100 sq km of land in Duqm has been allocated for a clean energy project, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) announced.

A statement issued online by OPAZ said, "A group of international companies expressed interest to invest in clean hydrogen projects in the special economic zones and free zones in the Sultanate."

"This reflects the Sultanate’s perfect characteristics for hosting such clean energy projects, according to studies. Oman is rich in natural solar and wind energy potential, especially in Duqm."

"Huge land tracts across the country are a great platform for placing solar panels and wind turbines to produce electricity. OPAZ is coordinating with other concerned government bodies to allocate an area in Sohar for producing solar energy."
