The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Health, on Saturday, concluded its participation in the meetings of the current 150th session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation, which was held in Geneva, Switzerland, and lasted for 6 days.
The Sultanate’s delegation to the meetings was headed by Dr. Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Saidi, Minister of Health.
The proposal of the “Global Health for Peace” initiative for the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Switzerland was approved by the Executive Council of the World Health Organisation during the meetings of the Executive Council, and the initiative received great support from the member states of the Council.
The initiative seeks to strengthen and activate the link between health, social cohesion and peace by focusing on the unique role that public health programs can play in bringing together different groups and building confidence in all components of peace. The initiative also supports principles related to the success of health programs and the pursuit of peace benefits through Equity, inclusion, participation and leadership.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Saidi, Minister of Health, said in a statement: “The Health for Peace initiative came in complete harmony with the moderate policies of the Sultanate of Oman and always striving for the good and the interest of all mankind, noting that preparations for this initiative began since 2019 with the Federal Switzerland of During side consultations and meetings.
His Excellency stressed the importance of health is a bridge to peace, as the initiative was approved by all member states of the Executive Council of the World Health Organisation and their great praise for this initiative and its objectives, adding this initiative to the Sultanate’s balance of positive initiatives.
Health ministers and high-level representatives from different countries of the world participated in the meetings, during which they discussed many topics, including global strategies for the health sector on HIV and the global strategy for research and innovation in the field of tuberculosis.
The meetings discussed topics of public health emergencies, strengthening WHO’s preparedness and response to health emergencies, the Standing Committee on Emergency and Pandemic Preparedness and Response, WHO’s work in the field of health emergencies, influenza preparedness, the Global Health Initiative for Peace, in addition to polio eradication.
The meetings witnessed the nomination of Tedros Ghebreyesus for a second term as Director-General of the World Health Organisation by members of the Organisation’s Executive Board.
