As part of its focus on focus on developing the tourism infrastructure in the country, in partnership with the private sector, Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has identified key projects across various governorates.
Some of the projects identified by OIA are the Mina Sultan Qaboos Waterfront in Muttrah, two hotels (four and five-star) in Yiti, five-star hotel (Alila Salalah) in Dhofar, four-star hotel integrated with adventure tourism in Jebel Akhdar and hotel at Bassa Beach, Khasab.
Despite the exceptional economic conditions facing the world, the construction work at the five-star hotel project in the Dhofar Governorate (Alila Salalah) was recently completed. The process of delivering the hotel to the operating company (Alila) is underway and it will open in the last quarter of this year.

In Al Dhakiliyah Governorate, construction work has been completed for the four-star hotel in Jabal Al-Akhdar. This project will offer opportunities for adventure tourism, which has been designed and implemented by a specialized European company that will operate this park in the first phase of the project.

In Muscat, work is underway on the first phase of the integrated sustainable tourism project in Yiti, which includes two hotels of the four and five-star categories in addition to several facilities that will contribute to the success of the first phase of the project and will be a basis for the completion of the rest of the project.

The Omani Investment Authority (OIA) in coordination with Omran is reviewing and evaluating the Mina Sultan Qaboos Waterfront Project to ensure that the targeted benefits of these projects are not in conflict with the privacy of the port and the historical and architectural heritage of the region.

The tourism activities provided at the site should commensurate with the lifestyle of the neighboring community. Following the evaluation, the project will be represented in a more appropriate way that takes into account the considerations laid at the evaluation stage.

In the Musandam Governorate, the OIA will develop the picturesque Basa Beach, which will include a public park project with multiple facilities, including a four-star hotel.

OIA said it will emphasize maximizing the return on state investments and contributing to promoting economic diversification, which will hopefully contribute to pushing the Sultanate’s efforts to raise the tourism sector’s contribution to GDP.
In a statement released to the media, OIA said, “The Oman Investment Authority takes into consideration several key elements in the implementation of these projects, of which the most important one is ensuring the highest level of return on investment from these projects, the distinct features of these areas surrounding these projects, and the privacy of neighborhood communities and also how they benefit from these projects. ”
