The 'Sas48 Hackathon' competition, which took place in Muscat and concluded on Saturday, had a primary objective of seeking innovative technological solutions for enhancing the disaster relief and rescue sector. This two-day event was organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, under the theme 'Relief Technologies.'
The competition was specifically designed for entrepreneurs and experts specializing in rescue and relief operations, programming, smartphone app and website development, project management, and marketing. Participants formed teams during the competition to devise creative and practical solutions aimed at improving the response of the relief sector to natural disasters, both in Oman and globally. These solutions were intended to be transformed into practical models that would make people's lives easier.
Out of the 530 individuals who expressed their interest in participating, 120 were selected to compete, with approximately 40% of them being male. The participants included programmers, entrepreneurs, designers, marketing professionals, and relief experts.
H.E. Dr. Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, the Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology in the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, explained that the event's primary goal was to identify solutions in 'relief technologies' across various sectors, including health, logistics, operations, infrastructure, technology, and civil society.
