The Supreme Committee has issued a decision to reopen mosques in the Sultanate.

 

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA) said, ”The Supreme Committee in charge to deal with COVID-19 held a meeting today under the chairmanship of His Excellency Mr Hammoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior - Chairman of the Committee, and in the presence of their Excellencies and members, in the General Office of the Ministry of Interior, to follow up the developments of this pandemic Locally and internationally, measures to prevent it, and ways to limit its spread and deal with its various effects.”

 

The statement completed, ”The committee has studied the issue of the gradual reopening of mosques after their closure due to the Corona pandemic (Covid 19), and based on the proposals received by the committee from the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, it decided to allow the reopening of mosques and mosques with a capacity of no less than 400 worshipers for the five daily prayers only and this does not include Friday prayers from Sunday, 15th November 2020, according to the following controls:

 

1. A person must avoid going to the mosque if he has symptoms of COVID-19 or if his family members has the symptoms or the infection.

 

2. Mosques will be open at the time of the call to prayer and for a period not exceeding 25 minutes, including the call to prayer, prayer and exiting the mosque.

 

3. Use your own Quran or electronic Quran while inside the mosque.

 

4. Water coolers must be kept shut.

 

5. Toilets must be kept shut.

 

6. The worshipers must bring their own carpets.

 

7. All worshipers are obligated to regularly sanitise their hands before entering the mosque and upon leaving it.

 

8. It is mandatory to wear masks while inside the mosque.

 

9. A distance of at least one and a half meters must be maintained between worshipers during prayer.

 

10. Supervising the agents of mosques and those in charge of them to adhere to all the above-mentioned controls and other precautionary measures specified in the 'Procedural and Guideline for Equipping Mosques' issued by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in a manner that does not conflict with the controls mentioned in this statement.
