The Environment Authority has successfully planted over 10,000 trees in the Khor Najd area located in the Wilayat of Khasab within the Musandam Governorate.
With support from Sohar Aluminum, the Environment Department in the Musandam Governorate carried out a comprehensive campaign to plant a total of 10,100 saplings. This initiative is part of the national endeavor to plant 10 million trees and is aimed at enhancing and augmenting the vegetation cover in arid and degraded natural areas. It also seeks to raise awareness about the significance of expanding green spaces, highlighting their environmental and societal benefits, as well as the potential economic advantages of certain plant species.
Muslim bin Mubarak Al Mahri, the Director of the Environment Department in the Musandam Governorate, emphasized the importance of this initiative in preserving vegetation, increasing green areas, and countering desertification through sustainable agricultural practices. These efforts are of vital importance as they help maintain the ecological balance.
Furthermore, Al Mahri noted that this initiative coincides with Tree Day, celebrated on October 31 each year, and stated that the planting involved Sidr and Ghaf tree saplings, reaffirming Oman's commitment to protecting and preserving the environment. This effort also highlights the role of Omani society in safeguarding the environment and its components across all age groups and demographics.
