The Muscat Municipality has initiated a tender for the implementation of a project dedicated to street vendors in the southern Mawaleh area, situated along Sultan Qaboos Street. The project encompasses a total area of 16,715 square meters.
Project Objectives:
The primary goal of this project is to streamline the operations of street vendors in the Wilayat of Seeb, particularly by distributing them strategically across vital locations and areas. This initiative aligns with the municipality's plans to manage the growing number of street vendors and address the issues of disorderly practices. Furthermore, the project aims to protect significant residential and commercial areas from the direct emissions of smoke originating from grilling carts. Additionally, it seeks to enhance and beautify the project site while preserving the economic and social contributions of street vendors. The Muscat Municipality is also committed to ensuring the health and safety of consumers by addressing the health aspects of these activities. This integrated approach facilitates the roles of health control and food inspection teams within a single environment, thereby enhancing service quality and food safety.
Project Components:
The street vendor project is strategically located in the southern Mawaleh area within the Seeb region, providing a designated space for street vendors equipped with all necessary services and amenities. The project includes provisions for 25 street vendor carts surrounding a shaded central plaza for seating. This central area is complemented by a children's play zone, restrooms, and an ample parking facility with space for 176 vehicles.
The project's objectives include creating an enabling environment for street vendors, reducing traffic congestion, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the area, and eliminating random sales practices that are currently dispersed across several locations. Additionally, the project seeks to improve the overall efficiency of the site and create a more welcoming atmosphere for families and children, encouraging them to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The project also places emphasis on organizing the entrances and exits to the site to mitigate any adverse effects on nearby residential neighborhoods.
