Coach Nidal Al Mughiri, representing the Oman Basketball Federation, took part in an international coaching and technical enrichment program conducted by the University of Delaware in collaboration with the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. This initiative was made possible through the support provided by the Oman Olympic Committee, which received backing from Olympic Solidarity at the International Olympic Committee.
The program was initiated in June and concluded on the recent Saturday. Its primary objective was to offer coaches the opportunity to enhance their skills, bolster their competencies in basketball training, and familiarize them with the university-level basketball environment in the United States.
The program featured four months of virtual theoretical coursework covering various facets of basketball coaching. Topics included player development, creating suitable training environments within schools and clubs, individual player growth, leveraging analytics for performance improvement, and gaining insights into coaching in the United States from the experiences of international coaches.
Following the virtual phase, participants visited the University of Delaware on October 8-9 to prepare for their upcoming training experience in the university's basketball program. This was followed by a three-week, in-person training program at national sports universities in the United States. During this period, the candidates worked on several projects and engaged in weekly online symposiums, which included observing player and team training sessions, physical conditioning activities, conducting statistical analyses of training sessions and matches, and collaborating with coaching staff. Additionally, they were involved in various off-training activities such as meetings, video analysis sessions, press conferences, and interactions with experienced coaches, among others.
